Virginia Voices - How the VHS is Giving History a Personal Touch

What is Virginia Voices?

As a part of their $38 million Story of Virginia Campaign, the Virginia Historical Society commissioned a piece on the people of Virginia. It's a documentary that will include self-submitted as well as professionally produced segments from people all over the state. The trailer videos hint that it will undoubtedly be a heartfelt and beautifully shot film with reflections on the genuine, the funny, the sad, and the joyous moments in select Virginians' lives.

What makes this film unique?

I'm excited about this film for several reasons. First, the focus will be people - what makes them tick, what are their hopes and dreams, where they're from, what makes them unique? And second, it's a chance to see folks tell their story on a larger commissioned project that has the budget to capture some fantastic footage.

Interviewing at the individual level gives history a first hand narrative - one that will allow future viewers years later to experience personalities and pick up on idiosyncrasies that really sets each of us apart.

Where to watch

From what I can tell, it will run at the Virginia Historical Society (Richmond) in the fall of this year. You're going to want to check it out. To find out more, click on the link below or watch some of their trailer videos posted to YouTube.
